UDS Aquaculture Department Pays Courtesy Call on Fisheries Minister

A delegation from the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Sciences at the University for Development Studies (UDS) has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur.
The visit sought the Minister’s support for the establishment of a new aquaculture demonstration centre to enhance teaching, practical training, and research activities within the department.
The delegation explained that the department currently operates two facilities, one focused on production and the other on research, but requires additional support to expand its capacity and strengthen hands-on learning for students.
Hon. Emelia Arthur warmly received the delegation and commended UDS for its commitment to advancing aquaculture education and research in Ghana.
She assured the team of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the University, emphasizing that strengthening academic and research institutions is key to driving innovation and sustainability in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

The Minister further noted that partnerships between government and academia are crucial for developing a skilled workforce capable of transforming Ghana’s aquaculture industry and contributing to national food security and economic growth.
