Nigeria: ECOWAS support youth for Fishery, Poultry Production
Over 100 youth selected from Federal capital Territory(FCT) Abuja and Bauchi state are being trained on Fishery and Poultry Production facilitated by Community Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria (COMAFAS), funded and supported by Economic Community of West African states (ECOWAS).
The ECOWAS, had released $ 77,942 grant to COMFAS, to train the youth on strategies in Agriculture and other food sector for sustainable economy and food security in the sub region.
Making her remarks at the commissioning of the project in Kwa’ada Farms ,Karshi Abuja , ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture ,Mrs Massandje Toure -Litse , who was represented by Mrs Fatmata Lucia Seiwoh, said the organization has designed qualitative various training modules that will carry along over 3,032 youth with 70 percent Male while 30 percent reserved for Females.
She stated that ECOWAS, Agricultural policies are guiding framework for the 15 members states as it prioritize Agricultural productivity and competitiveness.
The commissioner also called for timely intervention in gender participation with the Agricultural sector as well as youth employment , food chains ,crops ,forestry , livestock, and fisheries.
On his part CEO, of COMFAS, Dr Austine Maduka , stated that the project would strengthen and ensure the availability of meat , other foods and qualitative skills for sustainable strategies in reducing the poverty and job creation.
He also commended the partnership with Directorate of the Agriculture and Rural Development of ECOWAS, Commission which he affirm that would domesticate sustainable strategies towards poverty reduction for various communities that benefits from the project.
