Who is Fahad Awadh?
Fahad Awadh is the co-founder and Chief Cashew Officer of YYTZ Agro-Processing. He is a passionate entrepreneur who has always wanted to make an impact in Tanzania, his country of birth.
Fahad was born in Tanzania but moved to Bahrain when he was two years old with his family. He later moved to Canada, where he attended an International Business and Technology program that taught him the values of entrepreneurship at a young age. He started his first business when he was in grade eight, selling custom-made t-shirts.
Entrepreneurial Journey
Fahad continued to pursue his entrepreneurial endeavors throughout his university years, where he studied business administration. He launched several ventures, including a media production company and a food delivery service. He also participated in various competitions and programs that exposed him to different entrepreneurship and social innovation aspects.
Fahad always knew that he wanted to return to Tanzania someday and create value there somehow. He was inspired by his father, who was a pilot and had travelled around the world. He also felt a deep connection to Tanzania through his annual visits during summer holidays.
In 2014, Fahad decided to move back to Tanzania and explore the opportunities there. He initially started a juice company called Coco Beach Fresh Juice Bar, which offered healthy and refreshing drinks made from local fruits. However, he soon realized that he wanted to do something more impactful and scalable.
He discovered that there was a huge potential in the cashew sector, which was largely untapped and underdeveloped. He saw that there was a gap between the farmers who grew the cashews and the consumers who enjoyed them. He also learned that most of the raw cashews were exported without being processed locally, leaving behind little value for the farmers and the country.
YYTZ Agro-Processing was founded
Fahad decided to take on this challenge and create a company that would optimize the cashew value chain in Tanzania. He partnered with his brother Ali Awadh, who had experience in finance and logistics and founded YYTZ Agro-Processing in 2016.

Since then, Fahad has been leading YYTZ Agro-Processing with a vision of building an inclusive and sustainable cashew industry in Tanzania. He has been recognized as one of the most influential and innovative entrepreneurs in Africa, winning several awards and accolades for his work. He has also been featured in various media outlets, such as Forbes, CNN, and BBC.
