Blue Food Innovation Hub to Unlock $10 Million Investment in Ghana’s Aquaculture Sector by 2032

The Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Aquaculture Ghana, Jacob Doe Adzikah, has announced that the newly launched Blue Food Innovation Hub aims to unlock at least 10 million US dollars in private sector investment by 2032 to strengthen Ghana’s blue food ecosystem.

Speaking at the official launch, he described the Blue Food Innovation Hub as a bold and practical strategy designed to tackle structural barriers in the fisheries and aquaculture value chain while expanding enterprise growth, job creation, and access to finance.

$10 Million Investment Target by 2032

According to Adzikah, the Chamber projects that the Blue Food Innovation Hub will mobilize a minimum of 10 million US dollars in private capital within the next six years.

The investment will focus on:

  • Strengthening blue food enterprises
  • Scaling small- and medium-sized businesses
  • Driving sustainable livelihoods
  • Expanding innovation across the value chain

He called on government, development partners, and private investors to commit resources to meet this ambition.

Blue Food Innovation Hub to Unlock Skills, Markets and Financing

The Blue Food Innovation Hub will focus on four priority areas:

  • Skills development
  • Innovation support
  • Market access
  • Financing for enterprises

Adzikah explained that these pillars respond directly to long-standing constraints in the sector. Many small businesses struggle with limited capital, weak technical capacity, and poor market integration. The Hub is structured to provide coordinated solutions instead of fragmented support.

Accelerator Program for SMEs

In the coming days, the Hub will roll out its first accelerator program targeting startups and SMEs within the blue food ecosystem.

The program will:

  • Enroll the first cohort of enterprises
  • Provide tailored business development support
  • Address cross cutting value chain barriers
  • Prepare businesses for investment readiness

Adzikah encouraged eligible enterprises to apply and use the platform to scale their operations and compete in regional and international markets.

Inclusive Growth for Women and Youth

A major component of the Blue Food Innovation Hub is inclusive participation.

The CEO stated that the initiative will prioritize:

  • Women entrepreneurs
  • Young innovators
  • Marginalized groups
  • Persons with disabilities

The goal is to create sustainable jobs across production, processing, distribution, logistics, and value addition.

He stressed that growth in aquaculture must translate into real economic opportunities for communities across Ghana.

Strong Global and Local Partnerships

Adzikah acknowledged the support of key partners, including the World Economic Forum for its technical collaboration and the UK International Development through DEFRA for funding the establishment of the Hub.

He also recognized the role of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture and multiple stakeholders who contributed to the co-creation and validation of the Hub’s strategy.

The Chamber, as host of the Blue Food Innovation Hub, has accepted full responsibility to operationalize and sustain the initiative.

A Practical Strategy for Ghana’s Blue Economy

Adzikah described the Blue Food Innovation Hub as a direct response to pressing challenges in Ghana’s blue-food sector.

He emphasized that the Hub moves beyond dialogue. It is structured to deliver measurable results through enterprise incubation, investment mobilization, and coordinated partnerships.

With an investment target set, an accelerator program ready to launch, and public-private backing secured, the Blue Food Innovation Hub now stands positioned as a catalyst for aquaculture growth, SME expansion, and long-term blue economy development in Ghana.
