FG Teams Up with Agro-Allied Cooperatives to Build 36,000 Homes for Farmers Nationwide

Nigeria

A group, Agro-Allied Commodities Cooperatives, is collaborating with the Federal Government to build 1,000 houses for farmers in each of the 36 states of the federation.

The President of Global Mechanised Farmers Initiative Worldwide, Yeye Oodua Agbaye of Ife Kingdom, Hajarat Adeyeye, announced this during a press briefing in Abuja.

Adeyeye stated that the initiative aims to improve the living conditions of farmers across the country. She highlighted that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has pledged full support for the housing project.

She described Agro-Allied Commodities Cooperatives as a key driver for technological advancement and food security in Nigeria. “With these advantages and benefits, Nigeria can rise significantly among the comity of nations in no distant time,” Adeyeye remarked.

Adeyeye noted that 90% of total agricultural production in Nigeria comes from smallholder farmers. However, she pointed out that agricultural services are often not tailored to meet the needs of these farmers. She emphasized the necessity of enhancing the implementation of strategies to significantly improve agricultural productivity.

Such improvements, she added, would increase farm-related employment and incomes, as well as promote better nutritional services at all levels. “For Nigeria to achieve greatness, it must start with a strong foundation in Agro-Allied Commodities Cooperatives and services within the value chain system,” she asserted.

Queen Adeyeye was joined by the new President of Agro-Allied Commodities Cooperatives Services of Nigeria, Professor Williams Ijoma, and other stakeholders in the cooperative societies.

Additionally, eight cooperative societies and companies are partnering with the Federal Government through the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) to provide palliatives for farmers in Nigeria.
